Steelers Still Consigned to Second-place in New AFC Championship Odds
Another week has passed and the oddsmakers have come out with new odds. This time, not much has changed from what we have seen in previous weeks. Most of the teams at the AFC have continued to hold the positions they held even though a few changes have been made. The Steelers are one of those teams that have not seen any movement in the new odds, especially compared to New England Patriots. The Steelers odds, which put them at No. 2, still remain below the Patriots who are at the top.
MyBookie updated the recent odds that have cast a light on the AFC teams and their likely performance in the championship. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been doing a lot to create a better team, and so have the Patriots. It appears though that the efforts of the Steelers do not amount to much - at least in the eyes of Bovada. It is unlikely to see any major changes as the weeks progress and teams' movements along the charts in coming weeks might be impossible.
The complete list of odds is detailed in Bovada's charts and the revelations on its are rather familiar. Taking a look at the first position is the New England Patriots, of course, who are highlighted as number one at +230. Coming in at number two behind the Patriots are the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are comfortably behind at +450. After the Steelers are the Houston Texans at +1000. The Jacksonville Jaguars follow the Texans closely at +1100 and they are tied at the same position with the Los Angeles Chargers. These teams are the top contenders in the AFC as of now.
The history of the Steelers in the past two seasons has not been inspiring. This is especially impactful when you consider them against their archnemesis, the Patriots. Over the last two seasons, the Steelers have had to grapple with not going to the Super Bowl while the Patriots make it through. The Steelers' playoffs hopes will have to be contained if the current odds are anything to go by. The fact that the Patriots are leading currently, however, might be a good way for the Steelers to put in more effort so that a repeat of recent history will not occur.
Compared to the other teams in the odds list, the other teams are also pretty formidable forces. The Jacksonville Jaguars, for instance, have some good history on their side when pit against the Steelers. The Jaguars managed to beat the Steelers twice in 2017 and they are not particularly in a bad form. It is thus a little surprising to see that they are put behind the Steelers by MyBookie.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a great team. They are indeed among the most impressive teams in the AFC. They will nevertheless need to come up with better strategies to take on the New England Patriots. Until that happens though, the Steelers will have to continue playing second fiddle in the championships compared to the Patriots.
